Meet the TARGET Model Developer

Julian Ford, TARGET Model Developer

Julian D. Ford, Ph.D., A.B.P.P. is a board certified clinical psychologist and Professor of Psychiatry and Law at the University of Connecticut where he directs two Treatment and Services Adaptation Centers in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network: the Center for Trauma Recovery and Juvenile Justice and the Center for the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders. Dr. Ford is past President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. He has published more than 250 articles and book chapters and is the author or editor of 10 books, including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2nd Edition, Treating Complex Trauma: A Sequenced, Relationship-Based Approach, 2nd Edition, Treating Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders in Children and Adolescents: Scientific Foundations and Therapeutic Models, and Critical Moments: Transforming Crises into Turning Points in Psychotherapy.  Dr. Ford is the Principal Investigator for the national Developmental Trauma Disorder Field trial research study, and  developed and has conducted randomized clinical trial and effectiveness studies with the Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET©) model for youths and adults with developmental trauma histories and complex PTSD.

Katy Reid, CEO

​Katy Reid, L.P.C., earned her B.A. in Communications Studies at the University of San Diego and her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Western Connecticut State University.  She has spent several years working with adolescents in Connecticut through community-based juvenile justice programs, Yale University’s Gear Up Program, the Therapeutic Alliance Group, Inc., and UConn Health Center’s Child Trauma Clinic as well as working in advocacy and counseling for families navigating chronic, complex illness.  Katy has trained over 700 professionals in the corrections, child welfare, homelessness, and behavioral health fields in evidence-based, trauma-informed practices. Katy currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Advanced Trauma Solutions Professionals, LLC, the dissemination organization for TARGET, an evidence-based treatment approach for traumatic stress disorders.  In her role as CEO, Katy has taken the lead in developing, testing, and implementing programs and operational systems; training, certifying, and supervising TARGET trainers, QA coaches; and developing resources.  Katy concurrently serves as a consultant to the Center for Trauma Recovery and Juvenile Justice with the University of Connecticut.

Kami Ochoa, CXO

Kami Ochoa, LCSW-S, is the Chief Experience Officer of Advanced Trauma Solutions Professionals, LLC. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a Master of Social Work Degree from University of Texas at San Antonio. Over the last 18+ years, she has held positions of clinical and administrative leadership as well as direct therapeutic practice with children, families, and individuals within public and non-profit organizations. She has worked in the fields of substance use, mental health, physical health, homelessness, poverty, trauma, and child welfare and the court systems. She is a professor of social work at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas and provides clinical supervision for master level social workers.

Over the course of her career, she has led strategic planning and implementation for organizational wide systems changes for leadership development, trauma informed practice, recovery-oriented practice, peer support integration, operational quality assurance, person centered services and employee wellness. She is committed to promoting social justice and empowerment to culturally diverse, underserved and at-risk individuals and groups. She has been involved in promoting micro and macro changes that are collaboratively accomplished with service recipients and providers.

Kami Ochoa’s values are aligned with those of the profession, and she believes wholeheartedly with providing a learning and supervisory experience, in which strength based, mutuality, mindfulness and critical thinking create new awareness and increased ability to honor, understand and serve others in the helping role.

Christine Kopcyk, COO

Christine Kopcyk serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Trauma Solutions Professionals, LLC, the dissemination organization for TARGET, an evidence-based treatment approach for traumatic stress disorders.
She has spent the last 17 years refining her skills in the administrative and technical fields. As the COO, Christine oversees the daily administrative, technology and operational functions of ATS Pro.
